Formed in September 2014, St. Ives Textiles is a small group of textile artists working together with the aim of exhibiting fine art textiles during the St. Ives September Festival. We meet once a month at The Borlase Smart Room, Porthmeor Studios, Back Road West, St. Ives in Cornwall and individually work throughout the month at home or in private studios
Working to a chosen theme and experimenting with a great variety of textile techniques, sampling and working in sketchbooks ... the group has a wide approach to drawing, design, printing, painting, dyeing, machine stitching and embroidery, applique, patchwork, collage, quilting, beadwork etc.
All of these disciplines are combined to create pieces of fine art textiles, wall art, 3D sculpture, wearable art or items of interior design, together with supporting sketchbooks (sharing ideas and designs). Art cards and some textile supplies may also be available at the Shows
Following on from our successful inaugural show of textiles on the theme of "Seeds and Pods" in September 2015 and our second show "St. Ives in Textiles", unfortunately we had to cancel our 'Kernow Inspirations' show of 2017 due to the unexpected loss of our friend and group member, Margaret Garrood.
We have decided upon a new theme for a 2018 show - 'Fish, Feathers and Fur' - and hope to bring together another exciting show of work at Porthmeor Studios, St. Ives, Cornwall to be held during the St. Ives September Festival, where we fully intend to also remember Margaret and her wonderful textile work.
Dates and times are yet to be confirmed.
